Research has shown that burnout can be tremendously hurtful to us, and it is often not recognized until it has actually caused mental, physical, and financial damage.

We have the urge, to hustle and hustle but yet we need to ensure that the necessary steps are taken to avoid burnout as an entrepreneur. I mean, how do you want to achieve great success if you’re not able to perform at your best anymore, if even able to perform in any way at all!

Burnout is something that has to be taken seriously. Burnout is a state of exhaustion that we experience physically, mentally, and emotionally. It’s caused by excessive stress over a longer period of time.

In a previous blog post, I already showed you 3 ways you can relieve stress. Besides managing stress, there are other ways that help you avoid burning out.

Keep on reading for 3 tips that are meant to help you live a more balanced life as an entrepreneur so that you can run your business with all the energy you need.


3 Tips To Avoid Burnout As An Entrepreneur

Start Your Day Right! – Start Your Day Smart

The best thing you can do to start your day is by not scrolling through your phone first thing after you wake up. If you check social media, open emails, and texts you put your attention to everyone else’s life, energy, and opinions!

Directly hopping on social media, means you’re starting your day by comparing yourself to others. Checking your emails just after waking up, means you’re starting your day getting worried about new emails in your inbox.

By doing this, your body releases cortisol, the stress hormone, into your system. If there is one thing you want to avoid 100%, it’s unnecessary stress in the morning!

It’s better to first take some time for yourself. Start your day with a morning routine that works for you and is easy to accomplish. A morning routine that evolves around you and your needs.

Morning routines are about setting us up for a successful day by putting us into the right head spaces for the day ahead. They ensure that you spend some peaceful moments with yourself helping you reduce stress.

For example, you could set time aside to meditate, read, or even work out. If you need some inspiration, I wrote a blog post all about my morning routine that sets me up for success, maybe it helps you creating yours.

But always remember, your morning routine is yours and yours only. Do what’s right for you! What works for someone else might not work for you and vice-versa.


Don’t Forget To Take Breaks – Self-Care Is A MUST!

It’s so important to maintain your work-life balance. It might be hard to take breaks from work, but they’re so important if you want to become successful and avoid burning out.

Even regular 10-15 minutes breaks throughout the day are highly important, especially if you work behind a desk all day! A great way to incorporate short breaks into your daily schedule is by following the Pomodoro Technique.

Through the week, make a conscious effort to take time for yourself, for your family, and for your friends. Take those breaks & schedule in time for self-care!

When prioritizing time for self-care you’ll be able to become the version of yourselves. ⁣By practicing self-care you’re choosing to honor your inner needs and wants to experience true happiness.

Practicing self-care also means making sure you’re getting enough sleep. Sleep, alongside physical activity and healthy nutrition, is vital to your overall health, focus, and productivity. Without sleep, you’ll not be able to perform at your best and your quality of work will deteriorate.


Avoid Comparing & Judging Yourself

It comes naturally that we tend to compare ourselves to others, especially those who are far ahead on their entrepreneurial journey.

Here’s the thing, when we compare ourselves to others, we usually think negatively about them or about ourselves. This negativity creates low vibe energy and puts you again into unnecessary stress.

Constant comparison and judgment often intensify imposter syndrome, the feeling that you’re not good enough. The one that keeps you from taking action because you feel you’re not capable of achieving great things. This most often happens when you compare yourself to others that are ten steps ahead of you.

By comparing yourself to others, you waste valuable time on things that actually don’t matter. Think about it, the time you spend comparing yourself doesn’t help you achieve your goals.

Whereas when you avoid it, you’ll be able to focus on things that actually do make a difference in your life and business.

Instead of spending X hours on the comparison train, spend those hours on tasks that actually move the needle in your business. Or spend the time taking care of yourself.


There are multiple ways you can avoid burnout. The most important thing to remember from all of this is, to ensure you’re prioritizing yourself! Take time to focus on yourself first thing in the morning, to do some self-care & stop comparing yourself to others.
